Togo produced 45,000 metric tons of cashew nuts in 2025, up 96% from 22,937 tons in 2019, the government's news site said, reporting a European Union presentation on the sector. The 2026 marketing season opened in February with a farm-gate price of 350 FCFA (€0.53) per kilogram, down from 425 FCFA (€0.65) in 2025, the site said.
Analysis: Cashew output has doubled over six years, while the producer price declined 17.6% this season. That means growers received less per kilogram despite higher overall production. Togo introduced taxes on raw cashew, shea and soybean exports in January 2026, reportedly to support local processing. The measure could influence competition between exporters and domestic buyers, but its effect on farm prices has not been established. Processors such as Cajou Espoir, which handles about 15% of national cashew output, may find more local supply. The 2027 opening price, expected around February, will be an important benchmark.
