Germany pledges €39mn of funding for Togo

39

Germany announced €39mn of new financing for Togo at the end of intergovernmental consultations in Lomé on October 23, with €27mn for financial cooperation, which funds investment and infrastructure, and €12mn for technical cooperation, the government's news site said. Agriculture takes the largest share, including the Irrigation+ project, school meals and rural roads, the site said.

Analysis: The new pledge is smaller than the five World Bank financing agreements worth $429mn (€385mn) signed in July, but could support specific infrastructure needs. Officials highlighted rural roads, irrigation and the Nangbéto hydro-solar scheme, areas that may create work for engineering and civil construction firms. The rural road program alone is seeking approximately €50mn more from KfW and AFD. Germany has not disclosed how the €39mn would be divided by project. Talks planned for 2027 are expected to set wider priorities, meaning the scope and timing of future contracts remain uncertain.
