How we produce Alama Report

What we publish, where our numbers come from, how we use artificial intelligence and how we correct our mistakes.

Editorial responsibility

Alama Report’s editor in chief is Andrew Shatalin, in Dakar. He chooses the stories in each issue and approves every text and every figure before publication.

Sources

We work from official sources (national statistics, the central bank, ministries, official texts and public procurement notices) and established news outlets, always cited. When a figure first appears in the press, we check it against the official release or say where it was reported. Our methodology sets out how each figure is verified.

Facts and analysis

Every story separates the fact, as the source published it, from our analysis, which is always labeled. The analysis weighs its conclusions against the strength of the data, and it is never investment advice.

How we use artificial intelligence

We use artificial intelligence tools to gather public data, prepare first drafts, translate and check calculations. Nothing is published without human review: the editor in chief checks and approves every story and every figure, and he is responsible for them.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we correct the page on this site with a dated note, and the correction runs in the next issue. Report an error to info@alamareport.com.

Independence

No story is paid for or sponsored. Stories are chosen for their value to readers, using our published method. Alama Report is funded by subscriptions to Alama Pro.
